"At some point after the Gaza deal, the government will start to unravel."
I don't know nearly as much about this as you do so I'll just accept this as axiomatic, but just saying - the Syria situation is so astonishing & momentous that people might start thinking...
Who can handle this? Why it's good old Charlie Brown, I mean, Bibi Netanyahu.
I agree with you. Netanyahu was the best leader for this war. He also was a supporter of the small, smart army that, along with Biden-Blinken hampered the war effort. My point about Netanyahu is that he is not capable to lead Israel to the reform of the security services, the justice system and the country as a whole.
God (or the Flying Spaghetti Monster, not sure which) works in very strange ways.
Netanyahu was *the* man for this moment.
I truly can't think of another person who could have handled the Syria crackup better, even down to the taunting video. (I'm usually not a fan of that stuff.)
I get your point. Now that he's fulfilled his destiny he should exit stage left.
Reform will only come from young men in the officer corps that most have never heard of. The old guard is obviously played out.
Meanwhile, though it's an objectively Good Thing that a butcher is out of the picture, Russia humiliated, Iran chastened, jihadists who applauded October 7 are controlling most of Syria. Erdogan awaits.

Never a dull moment in the Middle East.
