The amount of weaponry that the IDF is finding in South Lebanon goes beyond that they expected. Nearly every house in the Shiite villages have either weaponry in them or tunnel entrances that lead to fully equipped rooms with more weapons – or both. This has been going on since the start. Most weapons are Russian, some Iranian and the assumption is that the source of both is Iran.
However, there are rumors flying around that American weapons, specifically anti-tank weapons have been discovered, too. There is no official announcement of this and no one knows if it is true or not or the extent of it, if true, but if so – what would be the source of this weaponry? Ther are three possible sources to American weapons making their way to Hezbollah.
The first is the international black market for weapons. All sorts of guns, anti-tank rockets, grenades and ammunition is stolen from bases around the world and sold on the black market. This is a multi-billion dollar business and it could be that Hezbollah has been purchasing them over the years.
A second possibility is that they are coming from the Lebanese Army. The Lebanese Army is officially independent of Hezbollah and it is supplied by the United States. According to this piece in Forbes the US has supplied over $3billion in military aid to Lebanon since 2006. Why is this being done? Ostensibly as a counterweight to Hezbollah in the latter’s attempt to control the country. However, quoting from the article:
The U.S. government’s reasons for arming the Lebanese military are not entirely clear. In one notice to Congress of a sale to Lebanon, the Pentagon relied on vague rationales, stating that it would “enhance the foreign policy and national security of the United States by helping to improve the security of a strategic partner.” Equally vaguely, the notice went on to say that the sale would “improve Lebanon’s capability to meet current and future threats. Lebanon will use the enhanced capability to strengthen its homeland defense and to replenish existing stock levels.” The “threat” is never named, but the current threat to Lebanon emanates from a U.S. ally, Israel, not from Hezbollah or a designated adversary like Iran.
While the Lebanese Army is, for the most part, avoiding conflict with Israel, could it be that they are helping arm Hezbollah in their “period of need” when Israel is destroying and capturing their armaments?
The third possibility could be that it comes from the Biden escape from Afghanistan. There have been reports for awhile now that the Taliban are now large arms dealers and what better customer than the largest terrorist organization in the world? The claim at the time was that it was cheaper to leave the weapons there instead of flying it back to the US – as if an M4 rifle is the same as cans of tuna fish. Can this foolish calculation be coming at the expense of Israel and freedom?
Again, there has been no official statement by anyone regarding the capture of US arms but the rumors are flying. If true and it comes from the Lebanese Army that would put the lie to the whole Amos Hochstein drama of the cease fire deal he is trying to force down the throats of Israel. The rumored core of this deal is that the Lebanese Army would patrol and control southern Lebanon – if they are in fact the source of resupplying Hezbollah in their “time of need” Hochstein and his crony Blinken might have to try to push something else on Israel.
January 20th can’t come soon enough.
I don't think that the Lebanese Army is resupplying Hezbollah now. The Lebanese Army just gave them all these weapons beforehand. While the US stupidly wants to live with the fiction that the Lebanese Army is not Hezbollah, the reality is that what Hezbollah wants it gets in Lebanon.
Typical of the Pentagon and the State Dept: "Lebanon has an army. We'll give them weapons and they will work to advance our interests."
That didn't work too well with Chang Kai Shek and the Kuomintang in China after WW2. Much aid to them wound up in the hands of the Communists.
It didn't work too well in Afghanistan either. How stupid can you be, just handing military aid and deadly weapons like it was Halloween candy.
